It is startling how we jump from reversing aging markers in a cell to the prospect of living forever. The real miracle is the potential to reverse, aging related disabilities, such as glaucoma, that really distract from life quality. If we could keep our eyes and focus on the “smaller” and more immediate miracles, that would be a good step to improves quality of life and mind.
In short, I liked the post. But to say only that would be an understatement.
Just to provoke a little: don’t we know that we aren’t living, but dying every day? Our life had a beginning and will have a physical end. There is no doubt about that, for now. Knowing how to live well the life we began when we were born is a serious matter. And, I must admit, science can certainly help us live life to its physical end. Death is another matter. Science bears the responsibility of knowing how to preserve quality whilst we live.
Some of us are more in tune with that awareness than others... In my experience working in hospice, it's the people who sit with that truth who tend to live most fully.
I liked your distinction around ‘helathspan.’ I also make a distinction between ‘living’ and aliveness. My effervescent aliveness is tied to my Soul Essence & She is completely joyous and comes from Radiance. Sure, ‘living’ can be bumpy, however, I can’t hold onto grief or seriousness that long. They come and go, of course. My gratitude for all the sensory pleasures of human experience and my Soul purpose then take over. Yes, someday I will move off planet and that’ll be OK. 💞

Indeed, curing aging-related disabilities such as glaucoma would be extraordinary and enough!

Agree with your aliveness vs. living distinction!
